International Fellows

Education in the fields of sports medicine and arthroscopy is a primary focus at Midwest Orthopaedics at Rush. Dr. Jorge Chahla welcomes orthopedic surgeons from around the world to join his research team to further enhance and promote international growth in sports medicine research and patient care.

Dr. Felicitas Allende

Dr. Felicitas Allende is an orthopedic surgeon from Argentina, with a growing interest in Sports Medicine. She completed medical school in 2018, in Universidad Catolica de Cordoba, and an Orthopedics and Traumatology residency program at Sanatorio Allende in 2022. During her training, Dr. Allende sought international experiences, including rotations at Hôpital Edouard Herriot in Lyon, France, and observerships at the Cleveland Clinic and Midwest Orthopedics at Rush. These experiences have broadened her perspective in the field of orthopedics. She has also been actively involved in several local and national courses and has engaged in orthopedic research, showcasing her commitment to continuous learning and contribution to the field. After her residency, Dr. Allende joined Dr. Chahla at Midwest Orthopedics at Rush, to commence her specialized training in sports medicine, focusing on hip and knee arthroscopic procedures.


Dr. Fernando Gómez Verdejo

Dr. Fernando Gómez Verdejo is an orthopaedic surgeon from Mexico City, specializing in joint replacement and orthopaedic sports medicine, with a focus on hip and knee conditions. He graduated with honors from the Facultad de Medicina, Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM). Dr. Gómez Verdejo completed his orthopaedic residency at the Instituto Nacional de Rehabilitación (INR), Mexico’s leading orthopaedic reference center, and subsequently pursued a fellowship in articular surgery at the same institution, where he currently serves as an attending orthopaedic surgeon. In addition to his role at INR, Dr. Gómez Verdejo maintains a private practice at Hospital Ángeles del Pedregal in Mexico City, where he specializes in joint replacement and sports medicine. Throughout his training, Dr. Gómez Verdejo completed observerships at Epworth Richmond Hospital in Melbourne, Australia, and Midwest Orthopaedics at Rush University in Chicago, gaining valuable insights into advanced orthopaedic techniques. He is currently an international fellow with Dr. Jorge Chahla at Midwest Orthopaedics at Rush, where he is refining his expertise in knee arthroscopy and undergoing specialized training in hip arthroscopy. Outside of his professional life, Dr. Gómez Verdejo enjoys attending metal concerts, skydiving, and spending quality time with his family.


Dr. Safa Gursoy

Dr. Safa Gursoy has an associate professor degree in the Department of Orthopaedics at Ankara Yildirim Beyazit University in Turkey. He completed his orthopaedics and traumatology residency at the same institution. He has a PhD degree in Musculoskeletal System and Regenarative Medicine. He is the former president of Turkish Residents and Young Attendings Council and served as a board member in several boards of Federation of Orthopaedic Trainees in Europe. He has several publications in peer-reviewed scientific journals and has completed several European Union and national projects. Safa had been in Johns Hopkins in US and Rizzoli Orthopaedic Institute in Italy for short term fellowships. He is excited to bring his experience and learn new fundamentals in research and clinical practice in sports medicine at Dr. Chahla’s practice. In his free time, Safa enjoys exploring Chicago with his family.
